Expectations are wreaking havoc with Americans. Corporations enjoy privatized profits, but expect the losses to be socialized, covered by American taxpayers. Some lower-income Americans, accustomed to a paternalistic government buying their silence and votes rather than pushing for real change, expect continuous financial assistance. Middle-class Americans, too busy with their consuming behaviors and the ever-increasing amounts of labor required to pay off the debt overhang, expect government to take care of all social issues since no time is left for them to monitor our political system and thus ensure its proper functioning.
Expectations. An invisible concept that is tearing apart our nation, but makes it easier for us to blame someone else for our woes.
